Designing Mind, Construction of 3D Model of UMS Clock Tower for Children
Many scholars have agreed that early childhood is a crucial stage in terms of a child’s physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development. Therefore, all stakeholders must ensure quality early childhood education for our future generation by promoting essential skills and content, especially in preparing children to cope and live with the new norms after COVID19 struck worldwide. COVID-19 has changed Child Care and Education. Designing Mind: Construction of a 3D Model of UMS Clock Tower for Preschoolers specially targeted for early childhood by addressing needs from stakeholders such as teachers, parents, children, and academia. Traditionally, general objectives of teaching and learning geometry as identifying names, recognizing basic properties of geometric shapes, and matching real objects. However, young children often only experience standard geometrical shapes in stereotypical ways, with no rotation or reversals. This invention introduces a new approach in teaching and learning early Geometry for preschoolers to nurture designing matters and designing minds amongst kids. This approach was implemented with parents in teaching Geometry to preschoolers through book, synchronous online method and ICT resources via designing a virtual model.

Learning Skill:
Three importance learning skills will be instilled in this activity.
- Knowing the basic geometrical primitives, polygonal modeling and Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG)
- Knowing 3D knowledge, for example how virtual camera and lighting work in virtual environment and how rendering 3D could be applied to produce a so-called photorealistic model in virtual world.
- Exploring the ICT resources via designing a virtual model.
Hardware and Software:
- Laptop (HP Pavillion, i7, Nvidia GeForce )
- A web-based freemium 3D computer graphics software developed by Exocortex, namely Clara.io https://clara.io/scenes .
Modul: Menara Jam UMS
Time allocation:
35 Minutes (Pre school)
15 Minutes (Kid 9 years old)

Model Preparation and Procedure
Stage 1 :
Teacher will give basic know-how skill about the 3D Software (5-10 Minutes). Starting by introducing them
- The concept of virtual world and viewport setting.
- Virtual camera and rendering (process to produce photorealistic images).
- The transformation functions (translation, rotation, scaling).
Stage 2 :
Every single primitive/polygon will be colored differently to helping kids planning their construction model based on the completed sample of Menara UMS model
